New Student Orientation Details

We are so excited to meet our new Raptors and set them up for a successful year at LASA!

Below you will find essential details for New Student Orientation.

Dates:

  • Rising 9th: Last Name: A – L = Thursday, July 27

  • NEW Students in BAND = Thursday, July 27

  • Rising 9th: Last Name: M – Z = Tuesday, August 1

  • NEW to LASA Rising 10th-12th = Tuesday, August 1

If you cannot come on your assigned day but can come on the other, please do that! You do not need to let us know if you are switching dates.

Schedule:

We will start our “Welcome” session at 8:30 in the gym. Students will break out into small groups to rotate through 3 sessions, have lunch* all together, and then go back into their groups for another 4 sessions. We will end the day back in the gym with a quick “Wrap-Up” session.  Sessions will include opportunities for community building, completing 4-year plans, signing up for Naviance, making any final schedule changes, and getting IDs, books/Chromebooks, and lockers (if students choose to get one).

*The provided lunch will include cheese and pepperoni pizzas. If a student has any dietary restrictions, we recommend that they bring a lunch with them.

Drop-off:

Student drop-off between 8:00-8:30.

Drop-off is at the big gym entrance. This parking lot is located off Gardner Road.

We know everyone is excited to see the campus, but New Student Orientation is meant for just the students. Please do not walk your student into the building. Parents will have chances to explore the campus during other events.

Parent Volunteers:

If you volunteered to help with lunch, you can drop your child off at the gym and then come to the front parking lot (off Arthur Stiles) to park. We will have a lovely space for you to hang out in between drop-off and lunch set-up.

Recommended Items to Bring

  • Water bottle: We encourage everyone to bring their own water bottle. There are fountains throughout the school, but it is nice to have your own bottle as you move around in these hotter months.

  • Layers: This might sound a little crazy, but we recommend students bring a jacket or sweatshirt. This is an older building, and temperatures between classrooms can fluctuate greatly. Students are often appreciative of that extra layer in the colder classrooms.

  • Backpacks: Bring a bag if you have one to put any materials given to you and to carry the items listed above.

  • Lock: If you plan to get a locker, please bring a lock to put on it.

  • Parent Email Addresses: Students will be signing up in Naviance and will be asked to input parent email addresses. This is how most communication from the school will go out, and it is very helpful to have that information right from the start.

Pick-up:

Student pick-up between 3:30-4:00.

Pick-up will be in the same parking lot as drop-off. We recognize that it is very hot outside, and students will be allowed to wait in the gym foyer if they want. Parents, please call or text your child when you are close so that they can come out to meet you in a timely manner, and we can keep that pick-up line moving! If parents want to park to pick up, that is okay, too.
